Hey guys!
I finally made it to Amsterdam! I’ve always wanted to check out this adorable little city, but kept putting it off in lieu of bigger destinations when given the choice. Now that I’m actually living in Europe for a few short months, I knew it was time to take the Thalys train up north and see what all the fuss was about!
For starters, I will say that the small city is completely bombarded by tourists (for good reason), but that doesn’t take away from its charm. The canals and gorgeous views were pretty breathtaking and I loved walking through Vondelpark, which is a lot like New York City’s Central Park, but quieter, cleaner and more enchanting.
It goes without saying that everything about Amsterdam is really adorable, primarily when it comes to the gorgeous views surrounding the canals, especially this time of year. Living in California, I never really experience fall or leaves changing colors, but here, it’s in full effect. I loved taking a canal cruise to see the city by boat!
Amsterdam is loaded with great museums, and even in three days time, I wasn’t able to see everything I wanted to check out! I did get to see the Anne Frank Museum, which was really fantastic, and brought the book to life and all of its significance in a moving way. I also swung by the Rijksmuseum, which is packed with incredible works of art (Rembrandt, etc.). Be sure to allot several hours to properly see this place!
While I was in town there was a Marilyn Monroe exhibit at the New Church, and I’m so glad we decided to check it out! The venue was brimming with a well-researched history of the Hollywood star and I found it all so fascinating. Several of her original gowns and beauty products were on display, and of course, I paid special attention to all of these glam details. Erno Lazlo skin care was one of her favorites!
A few other highlights of my trip? Eating a fresh warm Stroopwafel, which is easily my favorite European treat, and dining at the cutest restaurant at the W Hotel called The Duchess. The elegant ambiance and decor of the restaurant was so my vibe, and a lovely break from sightseeing all over the city.
All in all, it was a fabulous trip! There are so many intriguing things to discover in Amsterdam–be sure to share your favorite travel tips and suggestions in the comments below!
