Have you ever needed a creative costume in a pinch? I seem to constantly find myself in these situations for some reason (and not just at Halloween!), and the thought of buying a generic manufactured ensemble always makes me shudder.
Just this past weekend my best friend decided to have a Superhero-themed birthday party, and I had no choice but to cooperate fully and fashionably. I always figure that I have so many clothes, I can easily interpret a costume out of the pieces I already own if I just put my thinking cap on…and I did just that!
Within minutes, I pulled together a chic Wonder Woman costume out of a few festive staples (French Connection red corset, Forever 21 royal blue mini skirt, Diane von Furstenberg belt (flipped inside out!), gold statement necklace from Forever 21, sparkly gold heels by Stuart Weitzman) I just so happened to have in my closet:
Next time you need a costume, I urge you to consult your closet first, think outside the box and work with what you’ve got. Finally, add little details to pull it all together. (That sequined red headband was totally a scrap of fabric before we fastened it around my hair for the finishing touch.)
Self-styled costumes are unique and creative, and best of all, gives you a major sense of accomplishment when someone (anyone!) pays you a compliment. And don’t forget– contact me! I’d be happy to help you pull something fabulous together!
