A few weeks ago I spontaneously booked a trip to Lisbon, Portugal and had the absolute best time!
I simply love traveling solo, and I’m always asked how I do it and how I’m not afraid. The truth is, I actually feel my best when I’m traveling alone in a foreign country and as long as you’re savvy and smart about where you’re going and what you’ll be doing, there’s no greater adventure or sense of accomplishment than navigating a new city alone.
Lisbon is absolutely beautiful and full of enchantment. I loved the winding little streets, the colorful houses, the peaceful waterfront and kind community of locals. There are a lot of hills, so definitely pack flats or sneakers (only!) and be prepared to feel the burn while you’re climbing higher and higher to see the incredible views of this gorgeous city.
In terms of amenities, Lisbon has plenty of luxe options like the stunning five-star Valverde Hotel, where I stayed, or The Ritz Four Seasons Hotel, where I enjoyed a tranquil spa day. I also loved stopping into Claus Porto, a chic soap store with the best packaging in the world.
There’s delicious seafood (definitely go to A Cevicheria!) and tasty Portuguese egg tarts (still dreaming of those!) and the most stunning sights to enjoy any time of day.
It’s safe to say that I absolutely fell in love with Lisbon and trust that I’ll be visiting the city over and over again!
