Last week, I packed my car up and headed down to sunny San Diego for a mini getaway that was breathtaking, fun-filled, and action-packed. I have such a personal history with my relationship with San Diego (I actually lived there one summer many moons ago), and going back is always such an adventure for me.

This trip proved no different. I was researching a travel story for Lonely Planet and hopped around town to visit all of the gorgeous beaches. Life could be worse, right?
This trip, I stayed at three different properties that each had such unique qualities. Catamaran Resort introduced me to life along Mission Bay, a serene and stunning body of water that I walked along every single morning and also at dusk. I loved Oceana, the on-property restaurant that served up seafood and sushi for lunch and dinner. Kona Kai Hotel and Resort in Shelter Island was well-appointed, modern, and charming–I loved the bike rentals, spa amenities, outdoor gym (just for Covid!), firepits for nightly bonfires, and the private beach. I would love to come back later in the summer to bask in warm weather in this charming area of San Diego that I never knew about. Nearby Sunset Cliffs was a favorite beach discovery for me–the views are incredible and so, so pretty at sunset. And finally, Tower 23 Hotel in Pacific Beach has an incredible location right on the sand, and I found the rooms to be spacious, soothing, and so very comfortable.

Some days were spent solo, and others were spent with friends. I enjoyed insanely delicious seafood every day (don’t miss newly-opened Mermaids & Cowboys in La Jolla!), took tons of travel photos, discovered even more stunning spots around the city, and truly felt like myself again.

In short, I can’t wait to go back.
Here’s to brighter days ahead– and much more travel in 2021!
xoxo
Jenn
