As a young girl, I was mesmerized with the fashion industry at an early age, but it was rare to ever see an Asian in the industry. When Benihana’s adorable daughter, Devon Aoki,
made headlines as an up-and-coming model in the 90s (despite her tiny stature), I took immediate notice. Her beauty is exotic and extraordinary, and I have followed her career for years.
I was thrilled to chat with her last night at the Gucci party, and found out not only is she so cute in person, but her personality is equally inspiring, as well. Some words from my fave model:
“In anything you do, you’ve just got to go with it, ya know? There’s always going to be people that will tell you, Oh you’re just not the right size or shape, or your look is all wrong, But in modeling, I’ve always been the smallest model, I mean I’m 5’5. I’m tiny! But we can’t let people put you in a box. I just started acting in 2003, so it’s a new journey for me, but you know what, I’m going to grow and pursue it and improve my craft, and see what I can do. It’s not about other outside voices; it’s about your own dream. That’s what really worked for me. Do it with your whole heart and people will recognize it. Really, they’re attracted to it.”
That intg’hsis perfect for what I need. Thanks!
