Bula!
In case you’re not familiar, that’s how Fijians greet each other, so I thought it was only fitting to start this post with their perfectly warm, cheerful greeting, too. Fijians are the friendliest people in the world, so it’s hard to ever have a bad mood when you’re in paradise. After spending nearly 10 days there, I can attest that it really is a magical, magical place.
I put off writing this travel post for quite some time because the truth is, there are no words to describe my recent travels to Fiji. I explored the islands in early September, and the entire journey felt like a mystical dream.
I’ve always wanted to go to Fiji, so when Fiji Airways offered an incredible fare sale direct from LA, I jumped at the chance to make my travel dreams come true, and wanted to share a few of the highlights with you here.
(*Also please note that I will be publishing formal reviews of some of the hotels and adventures on different media outlets online in the coming weeks, so I will keep things more casual and concise here on my blog!)
First things first, the flight is long.
I am so glad I came prepared with two things to make it more bearable: an Ostrich Pillow and ZzzQuil. My Ostrich Pillow came incredibly handy and allowed me to block out the light and noise and get about 8 hours of good sleep on the flight. Granted, I sleep like a baby on most planes, but this definitely worked like a dream in more ways that I could imagine. I didn’t pay any mind to anyone snickering or curiously staring at me (and I’m sure I likely encouraged some smiles!), mostly because I couldn’t see them anyway! I would give this sleeping aid a 10 out of 10, and am so grateful that I enjoyed a truly restful flight experience thanks to its clever design. Its sheer size took up almost one tote bag of storage entirely, but it was still 100% worth carrying it all over Fiji so that I could use it on my return flight. As a true jet setter, there’s nothing more important to me than getting good rest to and from my destination.
Once in Fiji, we pretty much never stopped! We stayed at a dizzying amount of hotels (more on that later!) so we could experience as much as we could (I should add that I traveled with two other travel writers, so we had our work cut out for ourselves!) and there were some awe-inspiring highlights of the trip, of course.
As soon as we arrived, we headed straight to Malamala Beach Club to immerse ourselves in that private island life. We had the best time soaking up the sun and relaxing at the pool. The private club offers cabanas, white sand beaches, and an infinity edge pool overlooking the ocean. The food was impressively good, and I would highly recommend this for a day trip if you find yourself in Fiji.
HOTELS & RESORTS
As I mentioned, we stayed at a wide range of hotels all over the island, and I definitely had a few standout favorites. I won’t go into detail right now because I will be writing formal reviews on some of these properties, but I highly, highly recommend the list below, depending on what you’re going for. Below is my photo diary of my favorite memories from the trip.
