This post has been a long time coming, and I’m so glad I finally had some downtime this weekend to write about my big move. Relocating to Chicago was definitely a bold decision, and I have to say, I am still acclimating to this city day by day.
After being a true LA girl for the last decade, with recent time abroad living in both Paris and London, I never thought I would ever call Chicago home. But when a work opportunity presented itself to me, I realized I had no good reason to turn down this new adventure, and before I knew it, I was selling my car and packing up my bags to move to the Midwest!
Looking for an apartment was no easy feat, and I only had about three to four days to hit the ground running (working with three different brokers) while juggling a full-time job. I looked at dozens of apartments and focused on the Gold Coast area because it felt the most like home (a.k.a. it’s considered the Beverly Hills of Chicago), and it’s a quick walk to work.
I probably saw nearly 25 units and could have easily settled on a handful of them. It wasn’t until I saw the very last appointment on the very last day that I knew I had found my new home, or as I affectionately call it, the Glam Pad.
High in the sky with floor-to-ceiling windows, the Glam Pad is sizable and spacious, with great closets and storage for all of my clothes/accessories/beauty products.
I actually came to Chicago with absolutely NO furniture, so trust me when I say the struggle was real trying to furnish this place with limited free time and no car of my own anymore. I was meticulous with selecting each piece in the living room because I knew I would be spending the majority of my time there and entertaining friends in the gorgeous space.
The Glam Pad has an airy, chic vibe and my living room is naturally the focal point of the apartment since it has such incredible views of the city.
I decided a light, neutral color palette would be the most inviting, and selected this gorgeous ivory white shaggy rug by Safavieh from Plush Rugs to set the tone for the whole apartment. As soon as I unrolled in in the living room, I knew I had made the perfect choice. It’s luxe and fluffy, and incredibly soft on bare feet. It looks elegant and upscale and certainly doesn’t shed, which was a big concern of mine. I’ve gotten so many compliments on this fabulous rug, and couldn’t be happier with it.
My Andes sectional couch is from West Elm and I am also absolutely in love with every inch of it. I happened to pop by the store one day after work as they were trying to move the floor model out ASAP and snapped it up without hesitation–and am so glad I did! It’s the perfect couch for the Glam Pad and exudes an air of refined luxury as soon as you see it in my space.
To compliment my shaggy ivory rug, I added a few more accent pieces like a mohair pillow and matching lucite stool with faux fur from Best Home Fashion. I love these pieces because they look incredibly chic, but are affordably priced and look adorable in the Glam Pad!
I added some cozy elements like a dove grey Barefoot Dreams blanket and a polka dot pillow from Anthropologie, and of course, my collection of Diptyque candles and favorite frames.
I found the below Paris-themed artwork and some adorable decorative blocks by Rebecca Plotnick at a street festival in Chicago, and they’re easily my favorite purchases in Chicago so far. They instantly take me back to my time living abroad in Paris, my favorite city, and adore the romantic notions they all exude.
Stay tuned for more Glam Pad updates!
