With so many leading ladies dominating the scene at last night’s ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards, it was refreshing to chat with Willie Garson (i.e. Stanford Blatch in “Sex and the City”) about his favorite female (and mine!), Sarah Jessica Parker and thoughts on SATC.
What was it like to work with such a strong cast of women on Sex and the City?
I was playing a woman, actually! No, really, it was incredible. I always describe it as Thanksgiving dinner with a slightly less annoying family. We’ve been through everything together.
I learned that women are more like men than we thought before. They want to have sex, they want to talk about things, they want love. At the end of the day, it’s all about love. Everyone, no matter who it is, wants love. That’s what it’s all about. People all over the world loved the show because they think it’s about the stories and the friendships and the amazing clothes. But really, the show is about love and we can all relate to that.
So will there be a sequel?
We’re waiting. We’re hopeful. It’s all going to come down to the same reason why we’re here tonight: story, story, story! If there’s a story, and it’s relevant then it’ll happen. With $55 billion worldwide from the movie, I’d say a few studios are interested. And, hey, I’m in the market for a new vacation home, so I’m interested, too!
Cheers to that!
