A bevy of beautiful starlets are showing up this season with intricately braided hairstyles that somehow bridges a glamorous updo with the sweet innocence of childhood. The girlish style elegantly dresses up a casual look, and also transitions nicely with an evening gown.
The good news is that the basic braid look doesn’t require a ton of time or a mess of equipment—all you need are a handful of flat bobby pins, a sleek ponytail holder or two, and a couple of minutes.
Get creative with your style—Nicole Richie has been rocking the middle part and double side braids, while Lauren Conrad couldn’t get cuter with her sideswept hairline braid tucked behind her ear. For fine-haired ladies, I’d recommend a shot of texturizing spray (love ghd’s Sea Spray for Matte Waves, $24 at www.sephora.com) to add a bit of bulk so the braid doesn’t slide right out.
Spritz lightly with a finishing spray or shine-enhancing mist (like PhytoSpecific Extreme Shine Spray, $26 also at www.sephora.com) and, voila! All done.
(Bonus: Take your braids down later, and you’ll have loose summery waves.)
